How it all started
Our Journey:
Originating in 1945 as a Singaporean cottage industry pre-dating the nation’s independence, our company has undergone transformative growth.
As our business expanded, Joseph Cheng, the second-generation leader, initiated growth by establishing Harleigh (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd in 1987 and Shin-Nippon Industries Sdn Bhd in 1989. Over the years, we evolved from a local enterprise to a global player, supplying packaging to multinational companies across diverse industries.
Currently, we provide state-of-the-art paper-based packaging for Pharmaceutical and Medical Products to world-known market leaders as their ultimate provider ally.
Key Milestone
1987 – Established Harleigh in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, obtaining an LMW license and shifting a significant portion of handwork assembly to Malaysia.
1989 – Established Shin-Nippon in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
1992 – Moved 50% of box-making facilities to Malaysia.
1995 – Relocated 80% of box-making and printing facilities to Malaysia.
1999 – Upgraded converting equipment in our Malaysian plants
2000 – Engaged in a five-year contract with a Japanese printing and packaging company, enhancing workflow and quality.
2005 – Installed the first Komori 8-color plus online UV printing press in Malaysia.
2007 – Introduced the latest technology of Komori 6-color plus online UV printing press in Southeast Asia, equipped with PDC-SII for color matching and printing standardization.
2016 – Enhanced systems and capabilities with advanced equipment and software.
2019 – Harleigh (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd and Shin-Nippon Industries (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd became subsidiaries of Asahi Printing (Japan).
Throughout 2022-2023, we attained significant milestones by optimizing our production facilities. We seamlessly integrated cutting-edge offset printing and post-press machinery, concurrently reinforcing automated inspection systems and equipment. This comprehensive enhancement not only heightened packaging precision and operational efficiency but also established unwavering standards of quality consistency and reliability.
Moreover, we strategically expanded our company’s footprint and our team, garnering broader client recognition through our intrinsic capabilities and diligent efforts.
Current Landscape
As of December 2019, Harleigh (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd and Shin-Nippon Industries Sdn Bhd operate as subsidiaries of Asahi Printing Japan. A significant milestone was achieved in February 2022, as Japan Asahi Printing completed the full acquisition of both entities, underscoring a pivotal milestone in our ongoing journey.
